M1.2: Perimeter, area and volume – Lots of previous work visited here with area, surface area, volume and capacity. While you will review some of the previous work, you will get into new topics to further enhance your understating of Perimeter, area and volume.
You will be looking at calculating perimeters and areas of triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, trapeziums, circles, sectors of circles and composite shapes. With these calculations, you will also need to jump back to Pythagoras’ theorem to solve problems involving right-angled triangles.
Perimeter: Look at calculating the area of irregular shaped block of land. How much fencing do you need to keep the dogs in?
Surface Area: Looking at the surface area of solids including prisms, cylinders, spheres and composite solids
Volume and Capacity: looking at solving the volume of solids including prisms, cylinders, spheres, pyramids and composite solids
